Frequently Asked Questions

How can I get more information about The Richmond Forum?
In addition to this website, which includes our program schedule and speaker bios, you may join our email list, or call our office at (804) 330-3993 for more information.

When are Forum events?
We present five programs each season: November, January, February, March and April. All Richmond Forum programs are on Saturday evenings at 8:00 PM and end between 10:00 and 10:10 PM.

Where are Forum events held?
Richmond Forum programs are held at the Altria Theater in Richmond, VA, located at 6 North Laurel Street adjacent to Virginia Commonwealth University.

How do I attend The Richmond Forum?
The Richmond Forum is a subscription series. We also offer corporate sponsorship packages. Please call our office (804) 330-3993 for more information. Tickets are sold only through the Richmond Forum office. Tickets are not available through the Altria Theater or other ticket outlets and tickets are not available at the theater on the night of the program.

What are the subscription benefits?
Subscribers are assured a seat for all five Forums in the season. Subscribers also have priority when requesting additional seats for any Forum program. Subscribers who are unable to attend an event may donate their tickets to The Richmond Forum up until noon on program day and receive a tax credit donation letter.

Renewing subscribers have the option of upgrading their seats or retaining their current seats. Renewal notices are mailed to subscribers in good standing once the new season's speakers have been announced, usually at the March or April program. Please click here for more information about becoming a Forum subscriber.

I don't plan to renew my subscription for next season. Can I transfer my subscription to someone else?
No, subscriptions are non-transferable. Seats not renewed are used to improve the seating of other subscribers who wish to upgrade.

Is it okay to let somebody else purchase my subscription in their name?
If someone else purchases your tickets in their name, we will not recognize you as a subscriber. For instance, sometimes two couples will attend The Forum together and one couple will purchase all four tickets. That couple is the subscriber for all four seats. To protect your seats and avoid confusion, make sure your seats are in your name!

Can I purchase tickets to individual programs?
In recent seasons, tickets to individual programs have very rarely been available. If you are interested in tickets to a particular program, you are welcome to call our office on the Friday before the program to see if any tickets are available, (804) 330-3993. Tickets are not sold at the theater on program night.

How can I become a sponsor of The Richmond Forum?
The Forum offers a variety of corporate sponsorship packages. Please contact Dee Raubenstine, Director of Development, at (804) 330-3993 to discuss the opportunities available.

Can tickets be exchanged or refunded?
All sales are final; there are no exchanges or refunds.

Can I resell my tickets if I can't attend a program?
Due to the high profile of our speakers and the security surrounding many of our programs, reselling Forum tickets is a violation of our subscriber agreement. Subscribers advertising their tickets for sale forfeit their right to renew their subscription for the following season. If you are unable to attend a program, you may donate your tickets back to The Forum for a tax credit.

Are wheelchair accessible seats available?
Yes, the Altria Theater does have a limited number of wheelchair accessible seats. Please call the Richmond Forum office (804) 330-3993 in advance to notify us about your seating needs.

Is there an elevator?
Two brand new elevators have been installed at the Altria Theater and serve all levels of the building. Getting to seats in some sections, however, may require climbing a few steps. If you have specific questions, please call our office.

Are hearing assistance devices available for Forum events?
Yes, the Altria Theater provides hearing assistance devices for free. They are distributed at a desk in the Box Office at the theater. You will be asked to leave your ID in exchange for the device.

Where can I park?
The primary parking area is VCU's West Main Street parking deck, located between Cherry and Laurel Streets immediately to the south of the Theater. The cost is $10 at the deck or $8.00 if you purchase your parking pass in advance online.

What time does the theater open?
Unless indicated otherwise on your ticket, the doors open at 7:00 PM. All programs begin promptly at 8:00 PM. For your safety, and out of courtesy to other attendees, once the program begins, late arrivers will not be seated in the theater until intermission. Please plan to arrive early and enjoy concessions in the theater's beautifully restored lounges and live music in the theater.

Is there an emergency number I can leave at home?
The Altria Theater's administrative office number is (804) 646-0546. It's helpful to leave your seat location at home as well.

What should I do if I've lost or misplaced my tickets?
If you know before noon on the day of the event, please call The Richmond Forum at (804) 330-3993 ext. 301 and indicate that you need to have duplicate tickets waiting for you at Will Call in the theater Box Office (entered from Main Street). Will Call opens at 7:00 PM on Forum night. If it's after noon when you realize there's a problem, simply come to Will Call as soon as you arrive at the theater, show us your ID, and we will issue you duplicate tickets.

What happens in inclement weather?
Should bad weather ever require us to reschedule or cancel an event, we will get the word out via this website, emails to our subscribers, our Facebook page, a message on our office voicemail, and by notifying local television and radio stations and The Richmond Times Dispatch.
